Thursday Night at the Library is an eclectic mixture of programs by authors and musicians on
topics designed for enjoyment and education.
All programs are sponsored through the generosity of the Friends of the Library and the Macon
County Public Library. This project is made possible in part by the North Carolina Humanities
Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The next Thursday Night at the Library program will be held on October 16th at 7 p.m., in the large meeting room at the Macon County Public Library. Thursday
Night at the Library will proudly present The Fourth Community Mountain Music Jam.
At this jam, we will be playing old time spirituals, traditional mountain tunes, mountain fun songs, and
old time country and bluegrass. Anyone who sings or plays a musical instrument is encouraged to join us on
stage!
The Jam will be anchored by the Patton String Band. However, the members of the band will be scattered
among the other musicians, and they will not play as a group. They will just be other jammer musician.
Here is how the jam will operate.
The Jammer MC will ask, in turn, each musician on stage what song they want to sing/play and in what key.
The musicians will announce their songs & key. When the musicians start their songs, all of the other
musicians play along! After the song is completed, The Jammer MC will ask the next musician for a
song & key and the process is repeated for the duration of the jam.
This jam will last approximately one and half hours. We will play straight thru; note that FOOD WILL NOT BE SERVED! .
Some of you may want to play and/or sing with the group but think you might be embarrassed because you feel
you may not be good enough, or just too out of practice to jam with us. Forget those feelings! The
atmosphere of the jam will be relaxed, laid-back and enjoyable! Come on! Get your feet wet!
If you don’t play an instrument and just want to listen, that's great! Come and join us! Enjoy an evening
of old time mountain music!
Thursday Nignt at the Library programs are free and open to area residents and visitors.
Light refreshments will be served.
