Friends of the Library Membership The Friends of the Macon County Public Library welcomes as members all who value the key educational role played by the Library in the life of a progressive community. It's both easy and inexpensive to join the Friends. Please join us today to help keep our Public Library viable. You can pick up a membership application at the Friends bookstore, at the Friends display near the circulation desk at the Library, or you can click here to see our application form which you can then print out and mail to the bookstore along with your membership dues. Thank You!! Annual membership dues vary by type of membership. These are the membership
categories and the annual membership fee for each:
Membership Benefits Your membership entitles you to the FoL's quarterly news letter, FOLIO, which will keep you current on what's going on at the library and at the Bookstore. Your membership also will enable you to attend several FoL meetings a year that feature interesting speakers or entertainers. And, as a member of the Friends, you'll be able to donate some of your time to help the library or the FoL Bookstore continue to serve the community. The Bookstore holds “special sales,” usually twice a year. Members get the first chance at sale items during “members only” hours, which are typically scheduled in the evening before the doors are opened to the general public on the following day. You have to have a membership card to participate in the “members only” sale. This is a very valuable aspect of membership! You can also use the Bestseller Rental Program at the library sponsored by the Friends. It allows you to rent (for a modest $2 for two weeks) the latest bestseller without waiting on the library's long waiting list for most of them. The Friends provide the funds to buy extra bestseller copies and the rental revenue goes into a fund to buy more extra copies. Once the bestseller loses its popularity, the library decides whether to keep the extra copies in its permanent collection or to turn them over to the Friends which then sells them in its Bookstore with the proceeds coming back to the library. You'll agree that this is truly a win-win innovative program that not only benefits avid readers but also, in the end, the library. The Friends of the Macon
County Public Library, Inc.
